Advancing Health Equity: Pathways for Hospitals to Improve Health Virtual Workshop

October 8, 2020 - 9:00am - 3:30pm

Session Description

This intensive one-day workshop offered by the Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC), and presented by Communities Lifting Communities and the Public Health Alliance of Southern California, provides an in-depth overview of the role hospitals can play in advancing health equity across their organizations and in the communities they serve.

Reserve a place or places for the Thursday, Dec. 3 event by clicking here.

The workshop will cover foundational concepts central to advancing health equity including an overview of the difference between equity and equality in a health care setting, the root causes of health inequities (both historical and contemporary) and the impact of implicit bias and racism on current health outcomes.

Participants will learn strategies for how hospitals can work to transform their organizations into anchor institutions by adopting an anchor mission and aligning institutional resources – including hiring, purchasing and investments- with the needs of their communities. In addition, this course will cover relevant legislation related to implicit bias recently passed at the State level.
