Nearly 200 people attended the 2013 HASC Palliative Care
Conference, Feb. 26 at the Hilton Pasadena. Attended by
executives and frontline professionals interested in enhancing
communication across the continuum of care, the event presented
the latest information and best practices from leaders in the
industry.
With attention on Medicare spending and the coming silver
Tsunami, health care business-focused magazine Modern
Healthcare recently featured alternatives to repeated

In coordination with CHA, the Accreditation and Licensure
Committee monitors requirements for accreditation and licensing
and represents members’ views to organizations responsible for
those requirements; designs timely educational workshops for
members to assist hospital survey performance improvement and
post-survey peer-to-peer learning; and tracks voluntary and
regulatory quality data comparison projects.

multi-specialty work group began in 2009 as a subgroup of the
Contracting Committee. The work group serves as a forum to
simplify and improve claim payments to hospitals.

The Palliative Care Committee serves as a network for palliative
care professionals to exchange information and help create and
strengthen existing programs; educates the hospital community on
the benefits of palliative care programs for the hospital, the
patient and their family; and provides a toolkit of resources for
palliative care programs.
The group’s goal is to establish palliative care programs in 50%
of Southern California’s acute care hospitals.

Members of the HASC/Blue Shield Claims Adjudication Process
Improvement Collaborative presented a “Case Study: A Partnership
in Operational Excellence and Transparency (POET),” at the 5th
Annual Hospital Health System and Payer Executive Summit, Nov.
7-8.
The presentation, hosted by the World Health Care Congress in
Arlington, Va., and themed Optimizing the Revenue Cycle and
Billing Process, drew more than 500 health plan and provider
representatives and consultants and featured a review of the
four-year collaborative effort describing:

Seventy-seven players participated in the 2012 HASC Charity Golf
Classic on Oct. 22, making it one of the most successful events
in recent years. A special thanks to the Oakmont Country Club for
hosting the event designed to bring together HASC hospital
members and other organizations providing services to hospitals
for an enjoyable day of golf, networking and support for National
Health Foundation (NHF).
October will see the return of the HASC COO Network ListServ, an
electronic platform allowing member COOs to network, discuss best
practices and share innovative ideas that help optimize facility
operations.
