Introduction to Data Management for Lean Six Sigma
Webinar - Two Sessions
Establish basic competencies in data analysis using MS-Excel in Introduction to Data Management for Lean Six Sigma, an exciting Lean course brought to you by HASC and the Institute for Performance Excellence.
Designed for health care professionals, this two-day, two-hour introductory webinar revisits data principles of data type and basic graphing techniques using Excel. Students will apply the tools and techniques in a tutorial format for the first portion and then work on a case study and report out for the second portion of each section.
Course Objectives
- Know the differences between discrete and continuous data.
- Understand the use and type of descriptive statistics.
- Calculate averages and standard deviation.
- Understand variation and decipher between special and common cause.

Faculty
Jennifer Wortham, Dr.PH, is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and consultant with over 20 years of experience in the development and implementation of performance improvement programs, marketing, and strategic alignment for health plans and health care delivery systems. She currently serves as the Executive Director, for the Institute for Performance Excellence (IPE), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping health care professionals build the skills and capabilities to achieve exceptional quality, efficiency, and service delivery.
Prior to founding IPE, Dr. Wortham held key management positions at several leading health care institutions including Hoag Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, American Health Management, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Scripps Health.
Dr. Wortham has received several notable awards including the American Hospital Association’s Circle of Distinction Award for Marketing Excellence. She was presented with special commendation by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the development of a successful marketing campaign for Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, and was recently inducted into Upsilon Phi Delta, the national health management honorary society.
Dr. Wortham holds a masters-in Public Health and a doctorate in Public Health, Health Services Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. She currently teaches graduate courses in health services finance, and marketing at the UCLA School of Public Health; and recently launched a Lean/Six Sigma Health Care certification program for UCLA Extension.
