Our emergency and pubic health initiative focuses on readiness
and engagement to help ensure every hospital has an improving
level of preparedness for health and medical emergencies. By
providing linkages to your local emergency medical services
and public health agencies as well as access to services like
ReddiNet®, our emergency

response system to enhance your capacity to prepare for and
respond to emergencies.
This report provides analysis of a 2011 survey conducted by the
California Hospital Association (in partnership with the regional
hospital associations) to assess statewide hospital emergency
code usage. The survey was a followup to one conducted in
2009. The final results illustrate ongoing progress in
hospital emergency code implementation among California
healthcare facilities.
In April 2011, the California Legislature passed the Public
Safety Realignment Act (Assembly Bills 109 and 117),
which transfers responsibility for supervising specific low-level
inmates and parolees from the California Department of
Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to counties. In addition,
it tasked the local Community Corrections Partnership (CCP)
with recommending a plan to the County Board of Supervisors
(Section 1230.1 California Penal Code) which shall be deemed
accepted by the County Board of Supervisors unless rejected
by a 4/5th vote. Download the County of Los Angeles’ plan for
implementing AB 109/117.
The California Hospital Association’s Hospital Preparedness
Program (CHA HPP) provides ongoing support to California
hospitals and health systems in all-hazard’s disaster planning
and response. To find out more about the program, visit www.calhospitalprepare.org.
The nation celebrated National Emergency Medical Services Week
May 16-20. To help honor the dedication of those who provide
day-to-day lifesaving services on the front line, ReddiNet,
HASC’s emergency medical communications system, created a short
video.
The Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) Safety and
Security Committee and AllHealth Security Services helped define
Health Care Emergency Codes for the state of California. Download
the latest codes as well as implementation guides, checklists and
other materials to assist you with implementing uniform emergency
codes for your facility.
A cutting edge emergency medical communications system and
support services that facilitates disaster preparedness and
resource management, ReddiNet® links first responders with
crucial information in disasters in real time.
Downey Regional Medical Center is a stand-alone, medium-sized,
non-profit community facility. What’s happening to Downey is
typical of health care facilities throughout our region: 10 years
ago they were one of seven hospitals on what’s called “the 105
Freeway axis,” but today, that number’s down to three. That means
that more and more patients are streaming in their doors needing
medical care, brought in by ambulance or walking into the ER. And
that’s not the worst of it.
Critical Issues Facing Hospitals
Medical miracles happen every day in California’s community
hospitals. Babies are born, the sick and injured are treated,
patients with critical illnesses are cured. Millions of
Californians rely on community hospitals and emergency rooms to
be there when they need them most.
Pandemic planning requires that hospitals understand the actions
and priorities required to prepare for and respond to the
potential risks of a health crisis. The information and resources
here are intended to help you in your pandemic planning efforts.
