Role of the Charge Nurse
This course is intended for the registered nurse who participates or plan to participate in the charge nurse role. Featured topics will include advanced leadership strategies, communication techniques, priority setting and conflict management. We will facilitate practice scenarios in group exercises.
Course Objectives:
- Identify three key managerial functions of the charge nurse
- Describe how to assess patient care needs and match them with staff competence and ability
- Discuss how to manage conflict
- Explain the importance of relationship management skills in inter-departmental communication
Faculty:
Mark Kaliher, RN, has been teaching with Flex Ed for more than three years. Kaliher is formally trained in ER nursing, and has worked as a staff nurse and relief charge nurse. Since 1988, he has utilized his extensive skill set to conduct in-services and employee orientations. His experience includes working in the ER, ICU, PACU, Outpatient Surgery and as the House Supervisor at Glendora Community Hospital in 1990. He also began teaching CPR and donating time to teach Basic Life Support classes at community education centers.
