Case Studies, Data Reporting are Topics at Southeast Regional Trauma Summit
At the recent Southeast Regional Trauma Summit meeting at Loma Linda University Wong Kerlee Conference Center, Bonnie Sinz, EMS Systems Division Chief, presented an update on state trauma activities, and Dr. Raul Coimbra, Chief Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burns, UCSD, presented compelling trauma case studies to the group to elucidate the need for good QI being done. Work continued on Trauma Triage Criteria, QI regarding an Orthopedic Decision Tree, Open Fracture Treatment, Penetrating Abdominal Wound Data Analysis and an Interfacililty Survey.

Southern California Patient Safety Collaborative Track I Meeting Focuses on Hospital Acquired Infections and Sepsis
The Southern California Patient Safety Collaborative (SCPSC) held its Track I meeting of 2010 this week, focusing on Hospital Acquired Infections in the ICU Setting. The SCPSC is funded for 2010 through 2012 by Anthem Blue Cross and is part of the Patient Safety First…a California Partnership for Health.

Los Angeles County Supervisors Reduce ER and On-Call Specialists' Reimbursement Rates
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted this week to reduce the Physician Services for Indigents Program reimbursement rate effective July 1, 2009, from 27 percent to 18 percent. The rate reduction affects eligible physicians providing emergency services to indigents at non-County hospitals.

The HASC Palliative Care Conference on February 10 in City of Industry drew 103 participants from throughout Southern California to hear from an expert faculty and panel on the rapidly growing movement toward palliative care program development and evolution in the United States and specifically California.
