Inland Area Group Moves Forward on Regional HIE Project
Members of the Inland Empire Health Information Technology Coalition (IEHITC) will meet Feb. 8 to address the group's progress toward establishing a regional HIE (or partnering with an existing one) to serve the Inland Region. To date, the coalition has received 10 proposals from vendors interested in helping to launch the project.

OneLegacy & Local Hospital Partners Lead Nation in Recovery of Transplanted Organs
Working in concert with more than 200 local hospital partners, OneLegacy - the non-profit organ and tissue recovery organization serving the greater Los Angeles area - led the nation in the recovery of transplanted organs for 2009, coordinating a total of 1,182 organ transplants from 382 donors.

AllHealth Security Services helps health care facilities meet the requirements of AB 1083, the new California law that requires hospitals to conduct annual security and safety assessments to help ensure a safe environment for their workers, patients and visitors. AB 1083 also requires hospitals to have sufficient personnel to provide the security measures outlined in each facility's new or updated security and safety plans.

On Jan. 8, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger released a proposed budget of $118.8 billion for FY 2010-11 - which includes $82.9 billion for General Fund state expenditures, closes a $19.9 billion shortfall, and establishes a $1.0 billion reserve. Concurrently, he declared a fiscal emergency and called the legislature into a special session to address $8.9 billion of the budget deficit.

The National Health Foundation (NHF), Anthem Blue Cross, HASC and two additional California-based hospital trade associations recently announced they are joining forces to launch a three-year, $6-million effort to improve the quality of medical care and reduce health care costs via a statewide patient safety collaborative.

HASC & NHF Launch New Recuperative Care Program in Orange County
One year after the decision to explore the development of recuperative care services in Orange County, the Orange County Recuperative Care Program officially opened its doors on Jan. 8 in Costa Mesa. Launched by HASC and the National Health Foundation (NHF), the project provides a clean, safe place with medical oversight for homeless individuals who are being discharged from area hospitals, but require further recovery for their illness or injury.
